Types of Power of Attorney

General, special, or purpose-specific — we draft them all.

Not all powers of attorney are the same. The scope, validity period, and language requirements differ depending on purpose and destination. We advise the right type before drafting.

Most Common

General Power of Attorney

توكيل عام

Grants broad authority to act on your behalf across multiple matters — legal, financial, administrative, and property. Typically used when you will be absent from the UAE for an extended period.

  • Managing all UAE affairs while abroad
  • Opening/closing bank accounts
  • Property management and transactions
  • Business operations and filings
  • Legal representation in all courts
Most Precise

Special / Limited POA

توكيل خاص

Grants authority for a single, defined purpose — one transaction, one court matter, one property. Expires automatically when the specified task is completed. Recommended where scope should be controlled.

  • Sell one specific property
  • Represent in a single court case
  • Complete a specific business deal
  • Collect a specific debt or payment
  • Register one company or document
Cross-Border

Overseas / Notarised POA

توكيل خارجي موثق

A POA executed outside the UAE and intended for use here — or a UAE POA for use abroad. Requires apostille or embassy legalisation depending on the destination country, plus certified translation.

  • UAE POA for use in Germany, UK, France
  • Foreign POA for use in UAE courts
  • Property POA across jurisdictions
  • Inheritance matters across borders
  • Corporate authority across DACH, EU, GCC

Frequently Asked

Questions about POA drafting in the UAE.

Answers to the most common questions from individuals and businesses.

In most cases, yes — the person granting authority (the principal) must appear in person at the UAE Notary Public with their original passport. However, if you are outside the UAE, you can execute the POA at a UAE embassy or consulate in your country, or at a local notary (which is then apostilled and legalised). We guide the entire remote process and handle the UAE-side legalisation once the document arrives.
No. In UAE POA law, only the principal (the person granting authority) needs to appear at the notary. The attorney — the person being authorised — does not need to be present at execution. They will need to present the original notarised POA when acting under it.
A UAE General POA is typically valid for 2 years from the date of notarisation, unless a specific expiry date is stated. Special POAs expire when the specific task is completed or on a stated date. Some authorities (e.g. Dubai Land Department) have their own validity requirements — we advise the correct validity period for your intended use when drafting.
Yes. A POA can be revoked at any time by the principal, by executing a formal Revocation of Power of Attorney at the Notary Public. We draft and process POA revocations as well as new POAs. It is important to revoke in writing and to notify the attorney and any relevant third parties — a verbal revocation is not legally effective.
Yes. All legal documents submitted to UAE courts, ministries, and government offices must be in Arabic or accompanied by a certified Arabic translation. POAs intended for UAE use are always drafted bilingually — Arabic as the primary language, with your chosen second language alongside. The Arabic version is the legally operative version in any UAE proceeding.
Yes. We regularly draft UAE POAs for use in Germany, UK, France, Italy, India, Pakistan, and many other countries. For Hague Apostille Convention countries, we handle the full apostille process. For non-Hague countries, we manage the embassy legalisation chain. The POA is drafted in Arabic + the destination country's language, and the translation is MOJ-certified.
